While we’ve spent a lot of time talking about our incredible Advanced Filmmakers program this week, there’s been a lot of other things happening at WCTV.
This week at WCTV, Director of Operations Matt McMaken has been hard at work overhauling the editing computer systems to make them more efficient and user-friendly. His efforts are aimed at streamlining the editing process, which should lead to faster turnaround times for content production and improved overall quality. This upgrade is expected to greatly benefit the production team and enhance the viewing experience for WCTV’s audience.
Matt has also been overseeing the construction of WCTV's new podcast studio. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to be a fully integrated audio and video masterpiece. It will allow community members and paid clients to create top-notch podcasts with full video functionality, including social media cuts and the latest effects. The studio promises to be both breathtaking and incredibly inviting, offering a comfortable environment where creativity can thrive.
Speaking of the podcasting studio, we can not say enough about the work of Dillon DiPersio and DiPersio construction - they took our idea from a rough concept in our heads, and brought it to life better than we ever could have imagined. Dillon is a consummate professional, he and his staff do tremendous work, and he’s a Wilmington guy who cares about his community!
Matt has also been meticulously reviewing all existing equipment, testing each piece to determine what's obsolete and what’s still useful. Alongside this, he's been working on upgrades to our broadcast studio. These improvements will enable members to produce high-quality content without needing to bring in a full crew. This streamlined setup will make it easier than ever for members, students, and paid clients to create outstanding productions at WCTV.
Meanwhile, Programming and Arts Director Maria Aliberti has been honing her impressive skills as a graphic artist and designer by taking After Effects trainings. She’s been applying her new knowledge to create stunning graphics for our sponsors, ongoing programming, and municipal meeting coverage, enhancing the visual appeal and professionalism of our content.
Lead Producer Elijah Li has conducted many in-the-field shoots and completed several breathtaking edits this week. He’s also been working tirelessly on finishing his docuseries about Wilmington resident and multiple sclerosis survivor Daniel Buckelew’s running of the Boston Marathon. This project promises to be a powerful and inspiring story.
Lisa Egan continues to work the phones and act as the eyes and ears of WCTV, maintaining our strong connection with the community. Her efforts ensure that we stay informed about local happenings and keep our finger on the pulse of what matters most to our viewers.
Emily Marsden and our recently graduated former high school intern, Katherine Murphy, have continued to do an amazing job marketing "Under the Lights" to the community. Their efforts are helping to generate excitement and increase visibility for the show, drawing more attention and engagement from local viewers.
Speaking of interns, Ryan Weinstein, another spring intern who just graduated from Wilmington High, has remained a fixture at WCTV. He’s been instrumental in finishing several edits and is continuing to work on hockey content as well as his own photography. Another intern, Braedon Almas, has been assisting as a sound editor and creating soundtracks for various productions. Braedon and another graduated intern, Aidan Guyette, are also working on launching a new podcast called "Spitballin'," where they discuss music. It’s fantastic to see our interns continue to stay involved and contribute to our projects.
Lastly, WCTV has picked up a new volunteer, and we couldn’t be more excited. Aza Pietropaolo, a community member, came by a few weeks ago eager to learn about everything we have to offer, particularly editing and the use of our new mirrorless Sony cameras. Aza has dove in headfirst, already tackling several impressive edits. Recently, Aza joined Elijah Lee on a live two-camera shoot in the field, gaining hands-on experience and contributing significantly to the production.
