Under the Lights Sports Academy

An Intensive Week of Sports Media & Production
In Partnership with the Lowell Spinners of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League

This summer, WCTV is launching a first-of-its-kind experience for students grades 7-12.

A fully immersive sports media intensive where students step into the role of a professional production team — covering a live team in real time.

Students will spend the week immersed in a professional sports production environment, learning how modern sports media is created from start to finish.

🎥 A Week Inside the Game

Students will be embedded with the Lowell Spinners during a three-game homestand, working side-by-side with WCTV staff.

They’ll shoot cinematically from multiple angles, capture the energy of game night, and tell the story behind the team — just like a real media crew.

Throughout the week, students will learn how to produce cinematic-style edits, master the latest sports videography styles, techniques, and effects, and work with WCTV’s full suite of Sony mirrorless cameras and professional equipment.

🎬 What Students Will Create

  • Cinematic highlight videos

  • Short-form social media content

  • Player interviews and profiles

  • Behind-the-scenes and “day in the life” footage

  • Sports photography

  • Podcast-style interviews and features

  • A full documentary-style episode of Mill City Baseball

⚙️ The Full Production Experience

Students don’t just film — they do it all.

From capturing footage at the ballpark to editing and producing content back at WCTV, they experience the full workflow:
shoot → organize → edit → publish

They’ll also learn how to conduct professional interviews, produce sports-specific cinematography, and create compelling digital stories across multiple formats — including highlights, podcasts, profiles, and documentary content.
