WCTV Youth Outreach

One of the proudest traditions here at WCTV is our Youth Outreach program. Over the years, students have learned the basics of television production and honed their video skills. Some have even gone on to make their own careers in access and/or broadcast television. Others have moved on and expanded their horizons. Some are still learning and developing their own talents.

A Message from our Youth Outreach Coordinator:

Hello Wilmington Community! I am the new WCTV Youth-Outreach Coordinator, Brandon Shorey. One of my areas of concentration will be the Video Explorers program. You can visit the Video Explorer's blog by clicking here.

Originally, I am from the small town of Waterville, Maine but now reside in Belmont after deciding on a much needed scenery-change two years ago. As a 2007 graduate from Franklin Pierce University with a double concentration in video production and media studies, I have filmed dozens of athletic events for a variety of occasions including end-of-year banquets and live television broadcasts.

For the past five summers, I have served as the video director at one of America’s most prestigious summer athletic camps; Camp Manitou for Boys. There, I filmed daily events such as instructionals, athletic competitions, field trips, plays, performances, and other activities. At the end of each week, I presented the staff and camp attendees with a half-hour video, accompanied by a short slideshow that documented the many adventures of the preceding days. Aside from my position at Camp Manitou, I have also been out-sourced by a charity called Summer Dreams. This is an excellent program that was developed to provide under-privileged youth of inner-city Boston, with an experience comparable to that of the Camp Manitou.

I am excited about the Explorers program that I have developed! I believe the curriculum is engaging and creative! It is my hope that many students take advantage of the opportunity that is introduced to them by this program. I look forward to working with the Wilmington School System and its community!
