“Be A DJ...or Just Sound Like One”
This four-week class covers the
basics of radio broadcasting in a
music-intensive format.
Topics of interest include:
-Music programming basics,
such as formatting, artist
separation and music flow.
-Operation of professional
digital and analog broadcast
and recording equipment.
-Preparation of pertinent local
content for live breaks.
-Creation and integration of
various production elements.
-Announcing techniques such
as articulation, inflection,
voice projection and breath

This class is presented as an extension of the WCTV Cable
Radio project, which is in the process of producing an enhanced
background audio stream for the Community Bulletin Board seen
on WCTV’s Public Access Channel, WCTV-P (seen in town on
channel 9 of the Comcast system, and channel 37 on Verizon’s
FiOS TV service).
The class is taught by Bill Robert,
WCTV’s Operations Manager who, in
addition to his experience in cable
and broadcast television, was an air
personality on commercial radio for
17 years. In fact, Bill runs his own
internet radio station in his spare time,
broadcasting both automated and live
fare via the Live365 service.
The current class is now running
from October 23 to November 13, with
a second class planned to start in
January of 2008.
