WCTV’s Main Studio, with the adjacent
Control Room, makes up the heart of
WCTV’s Production Facility.
The studio allows members to team up
and work on programs such as:
-Panel discussions
-Interviews with multiple guests
-Call-in talk shows
-Live events such as auctions,
telethons, or membership drives
-Public affairs/informational shows
In addition, the studio provides space for training
crew members, producers, hosts, and anyone else
interested in learning about and working on live
television productions. (It’s also a big hit when we
offer our Scout Tours!)
Programs produced in this studio can be cablecast
live, or recorded onto tape and/or into our computer
system for later playback.
Our studio is equipped with three moveable cameras on wheeled tripod mounts.
In addition, an overhead camera is also available for use in establishing shots.
The lighting grid can be used not only for the direct
lighting for in-studio subjects, but also for special
lighting effects through the use of such accessories
as gels and “cookies”. Most of the lights on the grid
can be converted to use as either a spot or a flood
light, depending on how your lighting is set up.
The flaps around the lights, known as “barn doors”,
help control the flow of light and improve the look
of your lighting and your program. There is an area of the studio wall
painted blue for a special effect called
a “chroma-key”. A “chroma- key” is a
video effect in which the foreground
subjects are shot in front of a colored
background. When it is properly set up
using the Control Room switcher, the
blue color disappears and another
image appears in the background.
To answer the questions that we get
all the time, this is the same way they
put the map behind the weather guys
on TV. Thanks for asking...
Here are a few quick slides to demonstrate how a “chroma-key” works...

From the Blue Screen... ...to the beach... ...to the mountains...

...to a snowy spot... ...to the ocean... ...to outer space!
The studio also has microphone connections
for up to eight guests, so bring on the people, our
studio can handle them!
