WCTV’s Audio Lab is the newest room in the
WCTV facility. It is a fully-functional analog and
digital audio production room, and it serves a
multitude of purposes:
-It can serve as an audio production suite for
WCTV staff and members to record and edit audio
recordings (such as music beds, voice-overs, etc.)
for later use with video projects.
-It can also be used to record the myriad of voice
announcements heard along with the background
music on WCTV’s Community Bulletin Board.
The primary function of this room will be to serve
as the main on-air studio and classroom for the
WCTV Cable Radio Project. Basically, it will be the
studio from which WCTV Cable Radio volunteers will
be putting together their radio programs, which will
air between video programs on WCTV-P, our public
access channel. Classes have already begun, and
the Cable Radio Service will be launching sometime
in late November. Volunteers have the option of
going on the air live, or recording their program for
later broadcast.
In addition to the most up-to-date audio production
tools and software, studio operators can also use
the Audio Lab’s equipment to integrate older audio
recordings issued on such formats at cassette tape
and vinyl records. (Yes, those are turntables in the
photograph on the left.)
A guest position is also set up for doing interviews
with in-studio guests, and telephone segments are
also an option (though the WCTV Cable Radio
service will be completely music-intensive, and will
not feature any long-form interview or talk programs.
