Also helping us out for the day are the Girl Scouts of Wilmington Troop 1187.
In their hands are shopping lists that give participants a choice of the food items they can contribute.

Here is a shot of our Girl Scout helpers in action. When shoppers enter the store, they are asked to participate. If they agree, they given a “wish list” of needed items.

If some of our Girl Scout helpers look familiar to WCTV viewers, it is because they
have appeared in some of our on-air promotional “bumpers,” which are recorded as
part of a Girl Scout (or Boy Scout) tour of WCTV’s Main Office and Studio.

Everybody’s hard work paid off as, at the end of the day, we count 18 shopping carts
full of donations. That amount is more than twice the highest amount of donations collected in previous “Donations from the Heart” food drives. Nice work, everyone!

Every February, WCTV asks people from the town to “give from the heart,” and get a message from the heart in return. WCTV’s annual “Donations from the Heart”
food drive, planned to coincide with the Valentine’s Day season, is our annual way
to help our friends at the Wilmington Food Commissary.
Here’s how it works: anyone donating a food item to the Food Commissary on the
day of our annual drive can compose a message to a loved one that will run on
WCTV’s Community Bulletin Board during Valentine’s Day.
This year’s drive was a huge success, thanks in part to the hard work of WCTV staff
and volunteers, and also to the folks at the Wilmington Market Basket, who
allowed us to conduct our food drive at their store. Scroll down and see more.
