Getting set for the big
event is Rotarian and
WCTV Board Member
Joe Bilicki, who is also
testing an auction item.

Now we see Joe as he has
moved into the Control Room
area, handling the job of
providing on-screen graphics
for the production.

In front of the camera,
hosts John Doherty and
Bob Peterson look on as
the crew gets everything
around them ready to go.

Our three camerapeople are set...headsets on and hands at the ready.

Local residents and businesses helped the Rotary Club by donating the items
thet are put up for bid in the annual auction. In addition to the television auction,
the Rotary Club also holds a live auction the following night at a local
function hall, such as the Wilmington Knights of Columbus.

It takes a dedicated crew
to put an effort such as this
together. Rotarians, along
with students in the
InterAct program, need a
full day to set up the
studio and auction items.

Calls are taken for bidding
while the TV auction is on.
Calls are actually taken
by a bank of operators who
are in another part of town,
usually in a place of business
used by a Rotarian.

The white boards on the wall behind the hosts are used to keep track of the bids given on specific auction items. Hanging these boards is one of the more time-consuming set-up jobs.

A lot of people put in a lot of effort to ensure that these auctions come off just right
year after year. Rotary Club members put in the long hours needed to coordinate the auction items, set-up and prep the studio, and line up training times with WCTV
staff for members of the production team who need a refresher course.

Another Rotary Auction is now in the history books, but be sure to be back
next November, when the Wilmington Rotary Club will do it all again!

One of the longest-running events on WCTV is the Annual Wilmington Rotary Club Auction. That tradition continued this past November, as the Rotarians took over the WCTV studio and filled it seemingly to the brim with a host ofwonderful items up for bid. Here’s a look at that event...
